How do I calculate my Kua number?

Take your birth year, using the Chinese solar year that starts at Lichun around February 4. Men: add the last two digits until you get one digit, subtract from 10 (from 2000 on, subtract from 9). Women: add the digits and add 5 (from 2000 on, add 6), reducing to one digit. A man's 5 becomes 2 and a woman's 5 becomes 8. The calculator does this for you.

What are my lucky directions?

Each Kua number has four favorable directions: Sheng Qi (vitality and success), Tian Yi (health), Yan Nian (relationships) and Fu Wei (calm and stability). The table lists them for every Kua number.

What is the difference between East group and West group?

Kua 1, 3, 4 and 9 belong to the East group, whose favorable directions are North, South, East and Southeast. Kua 2, 6, 7 and 8 belong to the West group, favoring West, Northwest, Southwest and Northeast.

I was born in January. Which year do I use?

Use the previous year if you were born before Lichun, the start of spring, which falls on February 3, 4 or 5. For example, someone born on January 20, 1990 uses 1989.

How do I use my Kua directions?

Common ways are to face your Sheng Qi direction when you work or study, sleep with your head toward a favorable direction, and choose a favorable-facing desk or front door where you can. Practical comfort comes first.
