Lunar Birthday Calculator

Quick answer: enter your birth date (or your lunar birthday if you already know it). The calculator finds your Chinese lunar birthday and shows which day it falls on in every year from now until 15 years ahead, because a lunar birthday moves around on the Western calendar.

闰月How lunar birthdays work

The Chinese lunar calendar starts each month on the day of the new moon, so a lunar month has 29 or 30 days and a lunar year has 12 or 13 months. Your lunar birthday keeps the same lunar month and day every year, which means it lands on a different Western date each year, usually somewhere within a four-week window.

Born in a leap month? Leap months come only every two or three years. In a year that has the same leap month, the birthday is kept in the leap month; in other years it is kept in the regular month of the same number, which is the usual custom.

Born on the 30th? Not every month has a 30th day. When your month has only 29 days that year, this calculator shows the 29th, the last day of the month, and marks it.

历法Chinese or Korean lunar calendar?

This page uses the Chinese lunar calendar (China time, UTC+8). The Korean lunar calendar is calculated for Korea time (UTC+9), so a few months each decade start one day later in Korea. If you celebrate 음력 생일 in Korea, use the Korean version.

问答Questions

How do I find my lunar birthday?

Enter your birth date in the calculator. It converts the date to the Chinese lunar calendar (for example, Month 8, Day 15) and then lists the Western date of that lunar day for each of the next 15 years.

Why does my lunar birthday change every year?

Lunar months follow the moon, and twelve lunar months are about 354 days, eleven days shorter than a solar year. Leap months are added every two or three years to keep the calendar near the seasons, so the same lunar date moves back and forth on the Western calendar.

What if I was born in a leap month?

In years with the same leap month the birthday stays in the leap month. In other years it is kept in the regular month with the same number.

Is my lunar birthday the same as my BaZi birthday?

No. BaZi (Four Pillars) does not use the lunar month and day. It uses the solar terms, and its year changes at Lichun around February 4. Our free BaZi calculator takes your normal birth date and time and handles this for you.
