火羊2027 is the Year of the Fire Goat
Each Chinese year pairs one of ten Heavenly Stems with one of twelve animals. 2027 pairs Ding, Yin Fire, with Wei, the Goat. Ding Fire is the gentle fire of a candle or lantern rather than a blaze, and the Goat is a summer Earth sign. Together they suggest a warm, creative, people-focused year, after the faster and more restless energy of 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse.
People born in Goat years (1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015) meet their own sign again, a year called Ben Ming Nian. Not sure of your sign? Use the Chinese zodiac calculator; if you were born in January or early February, your sign may be the one before.

习俗How Chinese New Year is celebrated
- Clean before, not during. Homes are swept in the days before New Year to clear away the old year. Sweeping on New Year's Day itself is avoided, so the good luck is not swept out.
- Reunion dinner. On New Year's Eve families gather for the most important meal of the year. Fish is served because 鱼 (yú) sounds like “surplus”; dumplings, shaped like old silver ingots, are a northern favorite.
- Red envelopes. Married adults give red envelopes (红包, hóngbāo) with money to children and unmarried relatives. Amounts with an 8 are popular; amounts with a 4 are avoided.
- Red everywhere. Red couplets on doors, the character 福 (fortune), often hung upside down because “fortune upside down” sounds like “fortune has arrived”, lanterns and new clothes.
- Firecrackers and lion dances. Noise and color to scare off Nian, the monster of the New Year legend.
- Visits. The first days are for visiting family and friends, usually with fruit, especially mandarin oranges, whose name sounds like gold and luck.
